Tom Cruise
HOLLYWOOD, CA — In a stunning escalation of his well-documented commitment to stunt work, Tom Cruise reportedly leapt from a C-17 cargo plane Tuesday afternoon, despite no film crew, script, or legal reason to do so.
“He just showed up on the runway, smiled that million-dollar smile, and said, ‘I need this,’” said Air Force pilot Lt. Greg Hollinger. “We tried to explain this was a military exercise, but he was already halfway into a wingsuit monologue.”
Witnesses say the 62-year-old actor launched himself from the aircraft with nothing but a parachute, three GoPros (strapped to his forehead, chest, and moral compass), and a midair plan to “reconnect with the raw thrill of gravity’s betrayal.”
Cruise, who hasn’t blinked since 1997, is known for increasingly deranged on-screen stunts, including clinging to the side of a jet at takeoff, HALO-jumping into a lightning storm, and performing dental surgery on himself mid-chase sequence in Mission: Impossible 8: The Root Canal Protocol.
Sources close to the actor say this latest jump was part of what Cruise calls his Stunt Awakening Phase, a spiritual journey in which he attempts to “transcend the limitations of mortal flesh by willingly confronting death every Tuesday.”
“He doesn’t even know when we’re filming anymore,” said longtime producer and exhausted insurance negotiator Brian Lemley. “He wakes up, base jumps off his roof, and demands we build a narrative around it later. Yesterday he tried to fistfight a geyser.”
While most actors use CGI, green screens, or common sense,
Cruise continues to believe audiences can “taste the authenticity” of a fractured femur. He now performs stunts with such intensity that entire productions have been retroactively classified as military operations.
“Tom doesn’t shoot scenes,” said Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie. “He challenges them to a duel and then wrestles them off a cliff.”
When asked for comment,
Cruise replied via a shaky satellite phone while hanging from the Eiffel Tower by dental floss and sheer willpower. “Pain is temporary. Glory is forever,” he shouted over high winds. “Also, Top Gun 3 is coming in hot!”
Medical professionals have expressed concern over Cruise’s increasingly reckless behavior. “The man has broken more bones than an Olympic luge team,” said Dr. Ellen Rasch, who’s been treating Cruise since 2006. “His body is technically classified as ‘extreme weather-resistant leather.’”
Still, Cruise remains undeterred. He reportedly plans to celebrate his next birthday by being launched into the stratosphere via homemade rocket and reenacting the moon landing solo—without a helmet.
“We begged him to use stunt doubles,” said Paramount Studios in a prepared statement. “He responded by skydiving into our boardroom holding a live alligator and a flamethrower.”
At press time, Cruise was seen sprinting full-speed across the top of a bullet train shouting “SCIENCE FICTION IS FOR COWARDS,” as studio executives frantically tried to catch up with a script.
