In a tragic tale of indecision, local couple Hannah Myers, 29, and Kyle Barnes, 31, have officially called it quits after a marathon three-hour session of scrolling through Netflix failed to produce a mutually agreeable movie choice.
The breakup occurred around 10:47 PM on Saturday, with witnesses reporting that the pair cited "irreconcilable cinematic differences" as the cause.
“It started off fine,” Hannah explained, still clutching her half-empty bowl of popcorn.
“We both agreed we wanted to watch something light but not stupid, romantic but not cheesy, and exciting but not overly stressful. Three hours later, we’d gone through every category and were no closer to a decision.”
Kyle recalls a different version of events. “She kept rejecting perfectly good options,” he said, shaking his head in disbelief. “I suggested Jurassic Park—it’s a classic!
But apparently, dinosaurs weren’t the vibe. Then I tried Ocean’s Eleven, and she said, ‘I’m not in the mood for heists.’ Like, when are you ever in the mood for heists?”
Things reportedly took a turn when Hannah suggested a documentary about mushrooms, which Kyle immediately vetoed, declaring, “I don’t want to spend my Saturday night learning about fungi.”
Tensions escalated further when Hannah dismissed Kyle’s counteroffer of Die Hard as “too Christmassy” despite it being January.
By hour three, the pair found themselves caught in a loop of scrolling past the same titles repeatedly. The dreaded “Are you still watching?” prompt appeared—not because they were watching anything, but because Netflix itself grew tired of waiting.
Friends of the couple have expressed mixed reactions. “Honestly, this has been a long time coming,” said Hannah’s best friend, Emily. “Kyle never wanted to watch The Great British Baking Show, and Hannah could never appreciate Breaking Bad. They were doomed from the start.”
Relationship counselor Dr. Dana Schwartz weighed in on the phenomenon, calling it “decision fatigue meets streaming overload.”
“Couples are now expected to navigate hundreds of options every time they want to relax together,” Dr. Schwartz said. “It’s no wonder relationships are collapsing under the weight of choosing between The Crown and Shrek 2.”
Netflix itself released a statement expressing condolences: “We strive to bring people together through the power of storytelling. While we’re saddened to hear about the breakup, we remain committed to providing a vast array of choices that destroy relationships and waste entire evenings.”
When asked about the breakup, Hannah admitted, “I think I’ll just stick to watching things alone from now on. No one can judge me for watching The Notebook for the fifth time.” Kyle, on the other hand, has reportedly moved on—to HBO Max.
As the credits roll on this ill-fated romance, experts warn other couples to streamline their decision-making process by flipping a coin or embracing the shuffle button.
Anything, it seems, is better than spending three hours debating only to end up heartbroken and unwatched.
