ORLANDO, FL — In what fans are calling “an act of corporate treason disguised as theme park expansion,” Disney announced plans to demolish Tom Sawyer Island, the rustic, winding hideaway in Frontierland, to make way for a Cars-themed attraction designed to appeal to millennials, children, and anyone who thinks Pixar is the pinnacle of human creativity.
Longtime park-goers immediately erupted online, posting heartfelt tributes to the beloved raft-accessible island where they once explored forts, caves, and tree-shaded paths.
“I spent my childhood sneaking around Tom Sawyer Island, imagining myself a frontiersman,” tweeted lifelong fan Marge Simpkins. “And now you want me to watch anthropomorphic cars race around instead? Shameful.”
Industry analysts say Disney’s move is a calculated attempt to keep up with Universal Studios’ IP-driven lands, but fans are pushing back with a diabolical theory:
Classic Disney — hand-drawn charm, immersive whimsy, and storytelling that doesn’t double as a merchandising catalog — is better than mass-marketed new media.
“This isn’t just a land; it’s a memory,” said another outraged visitor. “Replacing it with Cars Land is like trading a Van Gogh for a Hot Wheels set. Yes, it’s shiny. Yes, it moves. But it will never touch your soul.”
Disney, however, remains steadfast.
Executives reportedly described the island as “a nice try, but nostalgia doesn’t generate revenue,” while unveiling concept art of animatronic Lightning McQueen doing a double loop next to a faux waterfall.
For old-school Disney fans, this marks a dark day. The once-peaceful retreat on the Rivers of America is gone, replaced by horsepower and CGI. Some mourn it quietly.
Others stage protests with hand-painted signs, reenact raft crossings in miniature, and whisper the forbidden phrase: “Mickey before McQueen.”
In short: the frontier is dead. Long live the franchise.
